Dorf Name: DORF
Locale: California
Exhibitions:

Internationally known for her wildlife and mini to gigantic floral watercolors, Dorf spends a part of the year travelling to where her subjects can be found-spending much time in Montana, Yellowstone and Alaska sketching and recording with camera and camcorder the action of the animals she loves to paint. The most recent venture was a Safari to South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia with other artists. The sounds as well as the action are caught on tape to be relived in the comfort of the studio.

Studying with top artists of the world in workshops and master classes-Bob Kuhn, Robert Bateman, Guy Cohleach, Nita Engle, Alan Hunt, Mort Solberg, Arne Westerman and John Seerey Lester- and hearing their critiques has been a priceless experience.

Dorf's watercolors have been featured in numerous juried exhibitions throughout the States including the San Bernadino Museum, CA, the American Museum of Wildlife Art MN, Yellowstone Park WY, Pacific Rim Wildlife Art Show WA, Women Artists of the West MS, Art Fest in La Jolla CA., Wildlife and Western Art Exhibit MN, Game Coin International TX, October West CA, Florida Wildlife Expo FL, Fallbrook Conservancy Wildlife CA, Alaska Audobon Show in Anchorage AK, Watermedia MN.

Gallery representation: Images a Gallery S.F., CA, C. Lee Clark Bakersfield, CA, Galerie de Tours San Francisco, CA, and Carmel CA, For Love Not Money Petrovsky MI.

A former commercial artist in the Chicagoland area for over 20 years, since moving to San Francisco she has devoted full time to painting watercolors. Her watercolors are in corporate collections in the Bay Area and in private collections all over the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, Taiwan, and New Zealand.

Artist's Statement:

I'm an outdoor person and the play of sunlight intrigues me. I hope the viewer of my watercolors has the feeling of being on the site, of feeling the sun or fog, of being part of the action, or the quiet of the moment. Also it is of primary importance to me to catch the personality of the animals I paint, so the viewer can sense the joy of eavesdropping on a moment in their lives, and realize how important it is that their grandchildren have the opportunity to see them "in the wild."
